Community Involvement

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced it will partner with Goose Island Beer Company on the brewery’s Migration Week Tour. Five partnership grants of $3,500 each will be used for community improvement projects in five cities during Goose Island’s international Migration Week beer and brewers’ tour.

“Hello, my name is….” It’s a phrase made up of only four words. It takes very little time to say – it’s an easy way to begin a conversation. Yet, when people say these words, they can have such a big impact. My late wife, Kate, started the #HelloMyNameIs campaign in 2013 while living with terminal cancer. As a medic herself, she had become frustrated with nurses and doctors who never introduced themselves to her before providing medical care.

Since 1998, Aflac independent sales agent Gail Moeder has volunteered with Camp Hope - Heartland in Great Bend, Kansas, a nonprofit camp supporting families living with, through and beyond cancer. For her, the cancer experience hits close to home, inspiring her to be involved with this special place “beyond the rainbow.” Watch and learn more about how she is “doing good” for her community. Volunteers from Subaru of America Inc., the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners and Lambs Farm spent the day recently building garden beds, transporting soil, planting and topping the gardens with straw to create Lambs Farm's first sustainable garden.

As part of Tetra Tech’s Sustainability Program, the company challenges employees from around the world to park their cars and cycle to work each May.

Instead of just volunteering, more than two dozen Whirlpool Corp. workers took part in a team-building exercise Tuesday that simultaneously solved a few kinks for a nonprofit organization.
