Brittany Agee is well on her way toward achieving her dream of becoming a social worker. This summer, the former GM Student Corps high school intern — who’s now a junior at Alabama State University — is returning as a college intern and mentor to help other students see their potential.

Two years ago, Elizabeth Klosky was brainstorming ideas with her father on what to do for her Girl Scouts Gold Award project when she had the idea to do something to protect bees. She and her father had just begun to keep bees in the yard, but when she realized how important they were to the environment – and that certain bee populations around the world were struggling – she wanted to help.

In this final installment of our four-part tribute to the legacy of Marlin mine, we take a look at the economic benefits and opportunities that have been created as a result of its decade long operations.Mining is a major contributor to the economy of Guatemala, and Goldcorp’s Marlin mine has demonstrated how the benefits of natural resource development reach far beyond tax revenues. A recent study completed by Central American Business Intelligence estimates that mining and the benefits that come with it, account for as much as 3% of Guatemala’s GDP, resulting in USD$900 million in export revenue annually, in addition to royalties and taxes.

When it comes to serving her community, Angela Collins speaks about the “magic” – or individual talents – of each person involved. One’s “magic,” she explained, is his or her natural talent, an ordinary thing that he or she does better than most. Angela believes that each person’s skills are magic to everyone else. “So when you figure out what people’s magic is and you put it to use in the community, to build community, to create community, to bring people together, that’s where the magic happens,” Angela said.

As a Chef for Nestlé Professional, my role is working directly with other chefs, whether they be from regional restaurant chains, large healthcare customers, or large hospitals. I help our customers fully integrate nutrition, health, and wellness, as well as food safety into their day-to-day operations. Nutrition and safety should, after all, be at the very core of food service.

In an effort to provide the community with accessible horticulture, Sands Cares and Sands ECO360 recently partnered with Penn State Extension, Lehigh and Northampton County 4-H and the Community Action Development Corporation of Bethlehem to build planting beds for the Lynfield Community Center in Bethlehem, PA.

Our Sacramento team worked with 11 schools to collect, sort and donate more than 1,500 pounds of material to students in need.

Xylem Germany’s Team Ludwigsburg sent 11 employee volunteers, along with their family and friends, to conduct a clean-up of a children’s and youth’s farm, Jugendfarm Kornwestheim.
