Community Involvement

Tis the season to reflect, refresh and recharge as 2017 comes to a close. While this year has certainly had its ups and downs, the Common Impact team is grateful for the passion and dedication of our partners who continue to drive our mission forward. As we head into the last week of the year, we spent some time reflecting on (and discovering!) what truly motivates us to do the work we do every day to strengthen the communities in which we live and work. Below you will find our staff's personal missions statements, which reveal what drives us both personally and professionally.

Earlier this week, employees from Sanofi Pasteur got the chance to be Santa Claus to more than three-dozen area families as part of their 23rd annual “Adopt-a-Family” holiday drive.

Whirlpool Corporation employees in Ohio collected enough money to purchase and donate dozens of bikes for children in need this holiday season.

Outdoor enthusiasts hold few people in higher regard than the brave men and women who provide medical aid on the slopes – and sometimes these professionals are assisted by another kind of hero, who leads the way and finds the rescue. Thanks to nonprofit Wasatch Backcountry Rescue’s (WBR) International Dog School, dogs around the country receive the intense training required of avalanche rescue dogs.

LVCART handles any 911 call involving animals, including technical rescue or for temporary emergency sheltering. Each county-based team keeps a variety of equipment on hand to aid in their response, such as large crates, leashes, cleaning supplies, pet oxygen masks, trailers and pet emergency kits, but LVCART has never had a permanent, efficient place to store them – until now. Purina recently donated $7,000 to LVCART to fund the purchase of a permanent storage unit.

For the seventh year, the Jack Daniel Distillery and the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) have kicked off their “Operation Ride Home” campaign that provides financial assistance to active duty junior-enlisted military and their families to travel from their place of military service to “home” for the holidays.

Every year, as part of its long commitment to support our nation’s military communities, Walmart helps Wreaths Across America (WAA) recognize the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and their families through wreath laying ceremonies around the nation. Coordinated and led by local volunteers, this annual event seeks to further the WAA’s mission — Remember, Honor, Teach — ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures.

Winter has officially hit West Michigan and the freezing temperatures have arrived. For many families the cost of keeping the heat on hits close to home.

For the 23rd year, hundreds of Head Start employees collected and hand delivered truckloads of gifts and basic essentials to Pocono Services for Families and Children (PSFC), which oversees Monroe County’s Head Start program.

rrow Electronics congratulated Matthew Rooda and Abraham Espinoza with the University of Iowa spin-out company SwineTech for winning the top undergraduate award last month at the 2017 Collegiate Inventors Competition. The SwineTech team also walked away with the first-ever Arrow Innovation Prize at the annual competition, which advanced the pair of young innovators to the final round of judging with all expenses paid.
