Community Involvement

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the National Park Foundation and American Express are announcing seven grants supporting volunteer capacity-building efforts at national parks across the country. Designed to support the growth of park volunteer programs, projects funded by the grants include expansion of volunteer housing space, development of recruitment handbooks, and outreach to neighboring communities.

ACCP granted Laura K. Gallagher, Global Head, Corporate Citizenship, AIG the 2018 ACCP Ignite Award for her exceptional leadership in the corporate citizenship field. Ms. Gallagher was recognized for her dedication to AIG and her commitment to creating positive impact on environmental, social, end economic outcomes in AIG’s local community and around the world.

Employees from Arrow Electronics and Salesforce volunteered earlier this month at the Food Bank of the Rockies to support hunger relief efforts. Working in two shifts, the volunteers helped sort, pack and load 70,000 pounds of food that will be distributed throughout Colorado.

The Arbor Day Foundation has announced a new partnership with Traeger Wood Fired Grills as part of the company’s commitment to sustainable practices. The partnership is launching with a kick-off tree planting event in Millcreek, Utah on April 18 at 9 a.m. Traeger employees will help plant 20 much-needed trees in Scott Avenue Park (3475 S 800 E, Millcreek, UT 84106). Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Tree member, Tree Utah, is facilitating the planting.

To demonstrate our support following the recent tragedy involving the Humboldt Broncos Junior hockey team, Scotiabank is committing $300,000 in support of the people of Humboldt, Saskatchewan and area.

Today we’re highlighting a project with a talented team of volunteers from JPMorgan Chase and its nonprofit partner, New Hope Housing, Inc., whose mission is to provide low-income vulnerable families and individuals high-quality affordable housing and the tools to build a better life. In 2016, Common Impact paired New Hope Housing with a team of HR professionals from JPMorgan Chase in Houston, TX to review and enhance their current employee performance review process to improve greater consistency in deployment.

April 15-21 is National Volunteer Week, a time to recommit ourselves to community service and celebrate the change-makers who positively impact the world around them through volunteerism. Here in our headquarters city of Charlotte, Duke Energy is celebrating the week by teaming up with Share Charlotte to support Do Good Week. Through Do Good Week, we hope to educate and engage our neighbors in the many ways we can do good through volunteerism.

Over the past eight years, The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation has helped create 1,000 community gardens across America. We’ve seen firsthand how gardens transform communities, but even more so, people’s lives. Here’s the story of one of those gardens, the Growing Colorado Kids Farm in Denver, Colorado.
