Our Action Teams of the Week are Bishop Ireton, HB Woodlawn, and St. Stephens & St. Agnes high schools from Virginia.   On Saturday, October 25, more than 20 Action Team Captains from Bishop Ireton, HB Woodlawn, and St. Stephens St. Agnes high schools joined forces with Alexandria Involved Ecumenically (ALIVE) to pack and distribute groceries for 200senior citizens and disabled residents of Ladrey High-Rise.   The Action Team Captains were not the only ones up and out the door early Saturday morning, Washington Nationals pitcher, Craig Stammen, was on hand to help start the grocery assembly line at 8:30 am.   Although his job on the field may be over for the 2014 season, Craig quickly rolled up his sleeves and got to work packing bags with groceries and fresh produce and delivering them to the residents of Ladrey. The Action Team Captains and Craig delivered more than just food, they provided lots of smiles and laughter to some who hadn’t received visitors since the last time a grocery delivery was made nearly a month ago,   “ This was an uplifting and fun event to bring smiles to these people’s face. It is also very encouraging for others to come out here and do the best they can and share in the excitement, “ said Craig.   While carrying bags through the narrow halls of Ladrey and waiting for the elevator to shuttle the carts up and down, Craig chatted with captains, sharing stories of his journey to the big leagues and offering pointers to Captains who were on Bishop Ireton’s Baseball Team.   With the help of the Action Team Captains and Craig, the 90 deliveries were complete by 11 am. Although this was the first event at Ladrey High-Rise, Action Team Captains plan to make this a regular part of their ongoing community service efforts by promising to stop by in December, February and April to assist with the grocery distribution.   Congratulations Bishop Ireton, HB Woodlawn, and St. Stephens & St. Agnes Action Team on your great efforts to inspire others in your community to get out and get involved in amazing causes!     To see more photos from the event visit our gallery here. Major Leaguers help inspire and encourage high school students to serve as Action Team Captains, who in turn deliver an important message to their peers: Volunteering is cool, fun and personally rewarding.  #JoinOurTeam
