The fight against food waste just got some powerful allies. The USDA and EPA joined with Sodexo and other private sector organizations to set the first national goal for reducing the food waste sent to landfills in half by 2030.
As part of this first-ever national food waste reduction effort, the federal government will lead a new partnership with charitable and faith-based organizations, the private sector and local, state and tribal governments to reduce food loss and waste, leading to improved food security and conservation of our resources.
The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) announced a new Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action to train 7,500 farmers in Ghana on improved agronomic practices, empowering them to supply local commercial markets with safe and high-quality peanuts to produce Vivi, a vitamin and mineral-fortified nutritional supplement distributed to school children in Ghana. Hershey commits to 100% local sourcing of peanuts for its production of Vivi by 2018.
WFTV Channel 9 Family Connection and The Trust for Public Land today named Chuck O’Neal as Central Florida’s 2015 Cox Conserves Hero. O’Neal’s nonprofit of choice, League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund, will receive $10,000 on his behalf. The three finalists were chosen by a judging panel and then competed in an online public vote to be named Central Florida’s Cox Conserves Hero.
