Verizon Bridges the Digital Divide for Middle Schools Across the Country With 24/7 Internet Access, Tablets and Technology Coaches

Today Verizon Innovative Learning, in partnership with the technology education nonprofit Digital Promise, announced it has added twenty-eight underserved middle schools to its program that equips students and teachers with free mobile devices and two-year data plans for access to the internet both in the classroom and at home.

Shaping the School Experience

Philadelphia magazine and Subaru of America called for nominations for the best teacher in the Greater Philadelphia area. With an overwhelming response, Ryan Berger of Enfield Elementary was proudly announced Philadelphia magazine’s Best Teacher Award recipient. Enfield Elementary received $5,000 and a book donation courtesy of Subaru of America.

Hands-On Scientific Learning Goes Global with Amgen Biotech Experience Expansion

It's no surprise that when students become fascinated by science, that enthusiasm can be contagious. From our survey with Change the Equation, we know students crave hands-on biology experiences that are often lacking in the classroom. The Amgen Foundation is on a mission to help more students catch the science bug, by introducing them to the thrill of scientific discovery and the experiences of actual working scientists.

“How Will You … End Littering?” Video Contest Launches for Second Year

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today launched its second annual effort to tap into the imagination and innovation of our nation’s youth to continue to advance its fight to End Littering in America. The “How Will You … End Littering?” Video Contest, open to students in grades 9-12, asks the next generation of community stewards to share their ideas about how to end littering by educating and motivating people to properly dispose of their trash.

Interns Apply Skills to Innovative Utility Projects

When Matthew Stilwell, 20, first applied for his field engineering internship at Southern California Edison earlier this summer, he expected to fetch coffees and file papers. Instead, after 12 weeks, the California State University, Fresno student’s proposal to re-direct the flow of electricity will be implemented as a $450,000 company project to shorten outages in the city of Visalia.

Sodexo Pledges $650,000 to Scholarship Assistance for Employees and Their Dependents

Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life Services and the University’s partner in facilities management, has made a gift commitment to WKU to establish the Sodexo Scholarship Fund to support their employees, as well as their dependents, in the pursuit of higher education at any campus of WKU.

Belle Heth Builds New Thinkabit Inspired Lab

The school has been implementing new technology such as Chromebooks for each student and new robotics. One of the new additions to the elementary is the Qualcomm inspired Thinkabit Lab. There are only two Thinkabit labs in the entire country and the school is working over the summer to have their inspired lab ready for the school year.

Disney Campaigns Recognized at Halo Awards

Disney's Hour of Code tutorials, created in close collaboration with code.org, aim to inspire children of all ages to learn the basics of coding in a fun and engaging way. Since 2014, more than 42 million students in over 180 countries have tried a Disney Hour of Code tutorial. In 2016, Disney and code.org's Moana Hour of Code tutorial was recognized with a Gold Halo Award for Best Education Campaign and a Silver Award in the category of Best Digital Campaign.

Keep America Beautiful Announces Launch of 2017 Recycle-Bowl; Encourages Nation to #BeRecycled Ahead of America Recycles Day

As students begin to gather their notebooks, backpacks and pencils for the new school year, Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, plans to ignite a passion for recycling in schools across the country with the launch of its 7th Annual Keep America Beautiful Recycle-Bowl.
