Viacom and NYC Service Help the Disadvantaged Pack for College

On Monday, June 11, Viacom interns and employees gathered in a pop music-filled conference room at the company’s Times Square headquarters. They had come to join Viacommunity – Viacom’s social-responsibility arm – to assemble duffle bags full of towels, sheet sets, laundry bags, comforters, backpacks and other items for disadvantaged college-bound students.

The two-hour event was part of Project Move-In Day, a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of New York City’s NYC Service program, the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS), and corporations such as Viacom that aims to provide 150 homeless or disadvantaged students with a packaged bag of dorm necessities at a summer send-off reception honoring their hard work and dedication.

Xylem Watermark & Project 24: Repok Bunut, Indonesia

As with many other communities in the east of Lombok, Repuk Bunut Village struggles to access clean water. For the more than 1,250 residents in this village, only 14 wells are actively used to meet the daily water needs. The water is dirty and harmful when consumed. Unfortunately, there is no other choice but to use the contaminated water, which can lead to illnesses that greatly affect the education of local students.

Access to clean water and water hygiene education are both necessary to provide these chidlren with a better, healthier life. The AquaTower provided to this community by Xylem Watermark and Planet Water Foundation during Project 24 will help to bring that needed change.

The 22nd Annual Viacommunity Day Was All Good, All Around (the Globe)

Friday, April 20 was truly a global day of giving. The day’s theme was “ALL GOOD, ALL AROUND.” The scope of Viacom’s traditional day of service reflected this motif well, as all around the world, employees did good: helping at their regular offices, like Viacom’s Times Square Headquarters; trekking to community organizations, like Chrysalis in downtown Los Angeles; or cleaning up the shores of Australia’s Sydney Harbor National Park.
