As a world leader in science-based innovation, DuPont is constantly pursuing new frontiers in agriculture and nutrition, advanced materials, and bio-based industrials. The science of transforming the world requires a lot of things --- perseverance, world-class scientists and engineers, and cutting edge research and development facilities to name a few. And, it also takes a lot of energy. In 2014, DuPont used approximately 27 million megawatt hours (direct and indirect) of energy, the equivalent consumption of 2.5 million U.S. homes over the course of a year.

Distributed generation, the low price of natural gas and modern customer information systems represent growth opportunities for the electric industry even as security concerns are on the rise and legacy power generation sources cede their prominence to new technology. Those are the top findings in Black & Veatch’s 2016 Strategic Directions: Electric Industry Report, the company’s annual review of the issues affecting the industry.

Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world’s largest leisure travel company, today released its 2015 sustainability report detailing the progress made in 2015 against its 2020 sustainability performance goals. The report’s details show the company is on track to meet its goals in the next four years, with sustainability efforts highlighted across its 10 cruise line brands.

Ingersoll Rand is again listed on the FTSE4Good Index Series, which measures the performance of companies demonstrating strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

Thermal hydrolysis is an advanced wastewater solids conditioning process that boasts both financial and environmental advantages. With the process in wide usage across the UK, it is now starting to gain traction in the U.S., as wastewater utilities analyze whether their facilities would make a good candidate.

Siemens has been awarded a contract to supply, install and commission 32 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.2 megawatts and a rotor diameter of 113 meters, for the Hornsdale Stage 2 onshore wind farm in South Australia. Stage 2 is an addition to the Hornsdale Stage 1 wind farm project, for which Siemens has signed a contract in August 2015.

Siemens is making the world's second tallest office building even greener. Representatives of Taipei 101 and Siemens recently signed a memorandum of understanding that paves the way for the installation of Siemens Navigator, a cloud-based energy and sustainability management platform for buildings.

Recently, Avista collaborated with Spokane, Wash. news station, KREM 2, and Inland Empire Toyota to educate customers about energy efficiency. The “Efficiency Matters” promotion included a contest where one lucky person could win a new, energy-efficient 2016 RAV4 Hybrid XLE. During the seven-week contest (April 18-June 5), viewers could watch any KREM 2 newscast for the energy efficiency keyword and submit it online to enter for a chance to win. Other social media options were also offered to find bonus keywords.

Efficient vehicles aren’t the only thing produced at GM’s Orion Assembly plant in Michigan. The home of the Chevrolet Bolt EV also generates more than half of its energy from renewable landfill gas – a feat that got the attention of the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership that tracks such activity. The facility now ranks as the eighth largest user of green power generated onsite in the U.S. among Green Power Partnership Partners.
