TE Major Kyrsten Rudock Interns at HanesBrands

HanesBrands was a top choice for me since freshman year, when I attended my first career fair and decided to stop by their table. I was immediately impressed by how welcoming the recruiters were and how they described the company culture and internship process, so I made a point to visit their table each semester.

FCA Helps Students Explore, Invent Tomorrow’s Next Big Thing

No one knows what the future holds, but for several weeks this summer FCA opened windows of opportunity for employees’ school-age children to dream big and think creatively about what the future could and should look like.

FCA’s Camp Invention and Invention Project camp invited more than 200 elementary, middle and high school students of FCA employees to bring their curiosity and creativity to a series of STEM and STEAM camps, short for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, held at FCA headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Scientists, Inventors, Entrepreneurs: These Girls Are Ready to Show the World That STEM Isn’t Just a Boy Thing

The Verizon Innovative Learning program is in its second summer at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA. It's one of 16 locations around the country focused on getting middle school girls in rural communities excited about careers in STEM. Between summer intensives, students meet monthly for field trips and to hone their skills. It’s all part of the Verizon Innovative Learning mission to provide free technology, free internet access and hands-on learning experiences to help underserved students get the education they deserve.

Using Skills-Based Volunteerism to Diversify STEM Leadership

Through our work developing strategic partnerships that engage business professionals to create positive community change, we see two major STEM education challenges that skilled volunteerism can help address. Last week, we wrote about how skills-based volunteerism can help build capacity within the social sector to effectively deliver STEM education. Today we are sharing our perspective on how STEM education and volunteering can increase representation for women and diverse communities in both the social and corporate sector.

Unlocking the Passion and Potential of the World’s Youth

Through our Youth Learning program, Dell is working with nonprofit partners worldwide to give underserved youth better access to technology and education. Going beyond access, we’re also creating a culture of inclusion, wherein science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning is seen as being for everyone — boys and girls, rich and poor. And we’re teaching youth of all backgrounds how to be persistent and work though challenging problems.

Building Capacity for STEM Nonprofits

Around the world, employers are seeking highly-skilled workers to take on existing and emerging roles in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, also known as STEM. Workforce development and education, particularly as related to STEM, are two of the largest focus areas for corporate and foundation giving as well as two of the largest mission focuses for nonprofits, according to the CECP’s 2017 Giving in Numbers report. Yet, even given this great investment, gaps in STEM education still exist, leaving both employers and students without the critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills sorely needed in our ever-changing global economy.

How Do We Make STEM Education More Equitable?

The challenge of diversifying the tech workforce is confronting companies across sectors as more jobs are requiring computational thinking and digital fluency. Simultaneously, the demographics of the United States are changing rapidly, and companies are challenged with ensuring that the talent pipeline reflects those dynamic shifts. Developing a robust and diverse technical workforce in the United States is becoming a national priority as a result of the emerging technologies and their impact on industries.
