The monthlong effort involved virtual volunteer activities by employees and monetary donations, including customer-purchased Shield of Recognition sales.
Educational and environmental programs took center stage for our EarthChoice Ambassadors (ECAs) in 2018, with more than 11,500 volunteer hours spent focusing on communities where we live, work and play. With nearly double the amount of volunteer hours from last year, our ECA chapters are committed to making the world a better place.
Each year during the holiday season, Domtar Paper Company and its Earth Choice program donates new winter coats to children throughout the community. This year, quality manager and Earth Choice ambassador Ryan Olaker and site manager Jerimy Huff visited Washington Middle School, bringing with them 65 brand new coats valued at $2,700.
Sands Cares, the corporate giving and community engagement program of Las Vegas Sands, is dedicated to being a good corporate citizen, committed to its people, communities in which it operates and the planet. In each region, Sands Cares has Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) leads that manage the program and execute initiatives unique to each region. Born and raised in Singapore, Joyce Siew graduated with a degree in English and Sociology and began her career in various communications related roles in both the public and private sector, before joining Marina Bay Sands’ communications and CSR team in 2012.
SeriousFun Children’s Network, founded by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, provides fun, life-changing camp experiences to children living with serious illnesses and their families throughout the world—totally free of charge. These medically safe, inclusive experiences allow campers to connect with peers and build confidence, empowering them to value the possibility and potential of their lives beyond camp—and beyond their illnesses.
The one-of-a-kind Disney Movie Moments program brings current Disney theatrical releases to children’s hospitals, enabling young patients to see the latest films from Disney while they are undergoing treatment and may not be able to visit movie theaters. The Walt Disney Studios celebrated a major expansion of the program with a special screening of Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where children and families also enjoyed photo opportunities with characters, giveaways distributed by Disney VoluntEARS and meet-and-greets with some of the film’s animators. The event was hosted by ABC 7 Chicago and continues the station’s longstanding relationship with La Rabida.
While community service is a core part of Timberland’s DNA, and employees around the globe volunteer at many events each year, we don’t always have the chance to return to the partners we serve and see the lasting impact of our work. I recently was able to revisit the Philadelphia Rail Park, which was the focus of Timberland’s 2017 urban greening effort and the site of a large-scale volunteer event to bring the park to life.
Subaru of America is proud to announce a donation of more than 5,000 science books to twenty Camden schools, continuing the brand’s commitment to education as part of its Subaru Loves Learning initiative. Earlier this week, Subaru of America President and CEO, Thomas J. Doll, joined Acting State Superintendent Katrina McCombs, and Harry C. Sharp Elementary School Principal Evelyn Ruiz to personally deliver the donated books to the Harry C. Sharp Elementary School. Following the delivery, Doll read one of the donated science books to a third-grade class of inquisitive students.
