Visa Inc. announced that Marianne Mwaniki has joined the company as senior vice president of social impact, with responsibility for the company’s comprehensive strategy in the areas of financial inclusion, financial literacy, corporate social responsibility and corporate giving programs.

Riding Hope’s Trail

There were smiles all around Aug. 30, as members of the Hormel Foods Bentonville (Ark.) Sales Office helped dedicate a new bike trail, a gift to some of the town’s youngest and most deserving residents.

Cassie Moore, customer business manager for Hormel Foods, was among those in attendance, grinning from ear to ear at what her co-workers and her company have done for children who find refuge at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. For a quarter of a century, the organization has served as a 24-hour emergency residential care facility for children who are victims of family violence, abuse and/or neglect. Since it opened its doors in 1993, the residential center has welcomed in excess of 9,000 children, giving them on-site schooling, counseling and other services during their stays.

JetBlue Announces Jacksonville, Fla. as the Winner of the Soar With Reading #BookWithUs Online Vote

JetBlue today announced Jacksonville, Fla. as the winner of the #BookWithUs online vote, part of this year’s annual Soar with Reading literacy initiative. Thanks to support from the local community in North Florida, Jacksonville bested JetBlue’s other 101 cities, receiving 38 percent of the votes. Throughout the summer, customers were invited to vote for their favorite city to win $25,000 worth of children’s books and a “reading room makeover” by celebrity interior designer Tyler Wisler for a local organization. More than 544,300 online votes were cast.

Partnership Promotes Classroom Reading Goal: 15 Pages A Day

The Paper and Packaging Board’s 15 Pages A Day campaign, which promotes reading on paper and illustrates the benefits of reading 15 pages each day, has recently made its way to classroom curricula around the country. Through a partnership with Young Minds Inspired (YMI), the Paper and Packaging Board is promoting a classroom reading goal of 15 pages every day.

Domtar and SCA Clean Up Parks in Two of Our Communities

Domtar volunteers in Missouri and Ontario invested hundreds of volunteer hours this spring to clean up community parks, with help from the Student Conservation Association (SCA).
