Foote Dam Turns 100, Visitors Receive Tour

The public got a glimpse of the inter-workings of the Foote Dam Hydroelectric Plant, Saturday, during a centennial celebration held over the weekend. Consumers Energy allowed 240 visitors to tour the dam at no cost on Saturday, Aug. 11, for 30 minute guided tours.

VMware Citizen Philanthropists Organize Bangalore E-Waste Drive

On July 21, 150 Citizen Philanthropists at VMware Bangalore designed a custom service learning project: door-to-door e-waste collection. The group divided into 12 teams to collect e-waste from the Koramangala neighborhood. Volunteers worked with local radio and newspaper, businesses, and social media influencers to promote the drive, and partnered with local nonprofits, Saahas and Ensyde, to facilitate recycling.

ScottsMiracle-Gro Associates Garden for Health and the Community

Associates at the ScottsMiracle-Gro headquarters in Marysville, Ohio, gather each year to plant row upon row of raised-bed gardens on company grounds. Then, from spring through fall, they volunteer to nurture the gardens, watering, weeding and harvesting them weekly with an eye toward serving the greater good. The produce is delivered to the Marysville Food Pantry to help feed about 75 families and more than 1,200 people weekly.

Sherlock Gnomes Tracks Down Free Screening for Local Youth

Embracing the Viacommunity spirit of “All good, all around,” Paramount’s volunteers gave back to kids in their local community with an evening of activities and an outdoor screening of Paramount’s animated flick Sherlock Gnomes at Los Angeles’ Lemon Grove Park.

The festivities were part of a program called Summer Night Lights, run by the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD) and The GRYD Foundation. This was the fifth consecutive year that Paramount has hosted the event, which offers artistic and recreational activities, health screenings, educational workshops and more to children and young adults living in areas highly impacted by gang violence and poverty.

Medical Affairs, Americas Bolsters Funding for Next Generation of Scientists

Stellar Girls™, an after-school science program offered to more than 600 girls from 25 Chicago-area schools, was the recipient of an $8,570 check raised from voluntary contributions by employees of Astellas Medical Affairs, Americas (MAA) with a match from the Astellas Matching Gifts program. The donation, earmarked for program supply kits, augments funding provided by the Astellas USA Foundation and the One Astellas Spirit Run fundraiser sponsored by the Womens Employee Resource Group (Stellar Women) during the US National Sales Forum.

American Express and Pharrell Williams Partner to Back Arts and Music Education in Schools

Today, American Express and Pharrell Williams announced an expanded partnership and joint commitment to raise awareness and support to bring more arts education to schools nationwide. As part of the collaboration, American Express Platinum and Pharrell will host a fundraising event, called the Yellow Ball, with an all-star lineup of collaborators on September 10, at the Brooklyn Museum to benefit Young Audiences Arts for Learning. American Express will also gift $1 Million to Young Audiences, the nation's largest arts-in-education network whose work strives to inspire young people and expand their learning through the arts.
