Each year the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption ranks the nation’s employers based on their adoption benefits. This self-reported list is a way to highlight the organizations in the United States who stand with us in our support of adoption and adoption benefits that allow more and more families to grow through adoption.
Did you know that the average length of time that a child is in foster care before being adopted is about three years? Most children move house-to-house during that time and often fall behind in their school work, aren’t able to make lasting friendships and find it difficult to trust.
On Saturday, March 3, Bloomberg hosted its 5th annual Startup Young Women’s Leadership Summit, convening 500 high school and college-aged girls at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a day of networking and mentoring. More than 200 employees in the Bloomberg Startup program joined together with students from 34 diverse partner organizations, including CUNY’s Macaulay Honor College, the Young Women’s Leadership Network, PENCIL, and our partner school University Heights High School, Girls Who Invest, the Ghetto Film School, and other high schools that participate in our FIRST Robotics programs.
Anyone who watched this year’s Academy Awards knows that the real leading lady of the evening was gender equality. There were a lot of strong statements on Sunday, but one that has stuck with me was Jane Fonda’s confident declaration that “what was once considered groundbreaking is now the norm.” She’s right. There is a new norm for gender equality and it’s based on transparency.
I want to ask the exact same question of all of us, whether a gameshow contestant or just a normal person – why do so many people want a car? For anyone reading out there, and I’m serious about this, I want to know if you have the same childhood memory. I mean, I can’t be the only one. AIDA Cruises is continuing its ongoing commitment to social, cultural and charitable projects. On March 9, 2018, at the ITB in Berlin, Hansjörg Kunze, vice president for communication and sustainability, presented a check for 42,265 euros to the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP for the reconstruction of an elementary school in Dinagat in the Philippines. The donation is part of the money raised from a charity raffle that AIDA traditionally holds aboard the AIDA fleet on New Year’s Eve. Severe floods destroyed many schools in the region in December.
I had the pleasure of discussing HP’s leading sustainability innovation and initiatives with public and private sector leaders at the Shell PPT Asia Forum. It brought together over 150 leaders, young talents and representatives from the public and private sectors. According to The United Nations University World Institute, entrepreneurship is a “resource process and state of being through and in which individuals utilize opportunities in the market by creating and growing business firms”. It can notably be key to addressing Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 8 of the UN, to ensure sustainable employment and lasting energy solutions. Thus, it needs crucial supporting actions from the International Community and local governments.
