Look at any community around the world that works with Fair Trade, from the smallest village in Uganda, to a coastal fishing town in Mexico, and you'll see that no two have the same exact set of needs. That’s why Fair Trade USA leaves power in the hands of committees of farmers and workers to decide for themselves how the additional funds earned through Fair Trade—called Community Development Funds—will be spent. Regardless of those unique challenges, many see education as the most promising solution. Our neighbors around the world are longing to write a better future for themselves and their children by creating opportunities to learn and grow.
There are many myths about foster care adoption, including the idea that it is too expensive. While some types of adoption can be very costly, foster care adoption is low cost and in some cases free. Traditional performing arts institutions are lagging behind other kinds of groups when it comes to embracing interactive technology in their performances, particularly methods that empower their audiences.
We tried a new-power approach to philanthropy at American Express with our Partners in Preservation program, which we sponsor with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
After 11 years, this partnership has awarded nearly $20 million in preservation funding to 250 diverse historic sites in 20 National Parks, fourteen different cities, and 12 Main Street communities.
