In 2005, Hurricane Katrina seriously damaged the dune ridges of Grand Isle, a barrier island located in Jefferson Parish, and 10 years later, the damage caused by Katrina continues to jeopardize the beach. Recently, volunteers from the Nature Conservancy, Grand Isle State Park and Grand Isle School planted beach vegetation in order to stabilize the dune ridges of the Grand Isle shoreline, create habitats for migratory birds and make Grand Isle and its residents more resistant to storm surge.
The year I turned 26, scientists measured atmospheric concentrations of Carbon at 400 ppm for the first time in recorded history. According to former NASA scientist James Hansen, “If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted…CO2 will need to be reduced [to] at most 350 ppm.” So the story translates: the arctic is melting. We are pleased to announce that the first Novartis Access shipment has just been delivered to Kenya.
