The monthlong effort involved virtual volunteer activities by employees and monetary donations, including customer-purchased Shield of Recognition sales.

Nestlé today marks its third annual Nestlé Cares day of service, an effort that unites its eight operating companies in 47 states to make a difference through more than 150 events nationwide. This year, Nestlé will expand its work with Feeding America®, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the U.S., to support local food banks and non-profit organizations that provide nutritious foods to families in need. Today’s day of service is part of an exciting week at Nestlé. On July 31, the company hosted a neighborhood celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony in Rosslyn, Virginia to mark the grand opening of its new U.S. headquarters.
As a leader at the world’s largest food and beverage company, I know that no single person, company, or organization can solve hunger, but our collective efforts can change lives.
I’m proud to say that Nestlé and our employees across the country take enormous pride in the role we play in working toward a solution. For 2018, Nestlé’s annual Day of Service in the U.S. will focus on combating hunger in our communities. Our employees will work at more than 75 events across the country, doing everything from preparing meals for families here in Northern Virginia, to serving at a Cleveland food bank, to leading a food drive in Oakland, California. These are only a few of the volunteer efforts organized across our factories, distribution centers, headquarters, and many locations in between.

At the company’s spring sample sale in June, Timberland employees opened their wallets and raised $29,000 to benefit the Derry, NH Chapter of the non-profit organization, End 68 Hours of Hunger. End 68 Hours of Hunger puts nourishing food in the hands of school children in need, to carry them through the weekend. Each bag of food provides two breakfasts, two lunches, and three dinners for a child, with some left over to share.
The Derry chapter of End 68 Hours of Hunger typically feeds 70 families per week during the school year, and set a goal to expand to 120 families in fall 2018. The $29,000 donation from the Timberland sample sale, which translates into 2,900 bags of food (at $10 per bag), enables them to achieve this goal.
Hormel Foods Corporation, in partnership with Albertsons and Vons stores, donated 24,840 units of SKIPPY® peanut butter to the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to support its School’s Out, Hunger’s Not Summer Food Drive.
The Schools’ Out, Hunger’s Not Summer Food Drive targets children living in poverty that stop receiving free meals at school when school is out for summer and often face hunger at home. In many cases, families are forced to rely on the food bank to feed their children over the summer months.
On May 31, Northern Illinois Food Bank dedicated the Epsilon Bulk Repack Room, celebrating its ongoing, generous partnership with Epsilon, an Alliance Data company.
Because we’re in the food business, it only makes sense for us to address hunger relief. For nearly two decades Tyson has had formal programs in place to aid hunger relief organizations and disaster relief efforts through product donations, volunteer efforts, grants and more.
We are now testing social enterprise initiatives that include connecting our K-12 Foodservice and Poultry group with hunger relief organizations to pilot programs aimed at solving hunger insecurity for children.
As part of Tyson Foods’ efforts to raise the world’s expectations for how much good food can do and its commitment to support the communities it serves, the company announced today nearly $1.2 million in grants to 18 Feeding America food banks in 15 states. The investments represent approximately four million pounds of food or the equivalent of 16 million servings of protein that will be distributed to address food insecurity.
