An Innovative App Helps Minnesota Companies Get Leftover Food to People in Need

The free app, MealConnect, was developed in 2017 by Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the nation, thanks to a $1 million grant from Minnesota-based General Mills. Food banks across the U.S. are now using the app, which allows organizations to post when they have excess food; the app then matches them with an agency that can pick up the donation.

Thermo King Drives Reduction in Food Waste and Insecurity by Committing Nearly $500,000 in Additional Grants to Food Banks Nationwide

Forty percent, or nearly $200 billion of food in the U.S. goes to waste each year. Making this statistic harder to comprehend, 40 million people struggle with hunger, and 12 million of them are children. To address this sensless epidemic, Thermo King, the leader in transport temperature control solutions for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, has committed nearly $500,000 to expand its social sustainability program, We Move Food™.

This latest commitment catapults the program’s total giving to nearly $750,000 in just two years resulting in more than 5.7 million meals for people in need.

Michael B. Jordan Wins $100,000 for Feeding America as Honey Nut Cheerios' Good Rewards Comes to a Close

Honey Nut Cheerios has crowned the winner of its first-ever Good Rewards program, with Michael B. Jordan claiming the top prize of $100,000 on behalf of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization leading the charge to help end hunger in our country. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) received $50,000, and the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation received $25,000 as the second and third place charity beneficiaries of Good Rewards.

In 2018, Bridgestone raised $1.54 million for the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville as a part of its ongoing commitment to improving the communities in which its teammates move, live, work and play. More than 80 percent of Nashville-based employees shared their time, resources and talent to make the campaign a success.
