United Way of Lake County will expand its high-impact program, Success By 6 Home Visiting, which provides at-risk children with early intervention services and healthcare to ensure they reach age-appropriate developmental milestones, with the support of a $25,000 contribution from Baxter International.

How Can Volunteering Build Employee Engagement?

Lately, I’ve been writing about employee engagement quite a bit, and I keep coming across information showing that volunteering as a workforce can do wonders for improving it. At first, I didn’t get the connection, but the more I read, the more it makes sense. Engaged employees go a step beyond what’s required of them. A big factor in their willingness to do this is whether they believe there is a larger purpose — a meaning — to their work.

As the final stop on the company’s 2016 tour of volunteer events across its network, CSX hosted a day of service at Windsor Hills Elementary School in Baltimore, Md. But as service members like me know, serving in the military can give you back just as much. Serving as a Navy reservist gave me many skills that I brought with me to the workplace.
