The Duke Energy Foundation today announced a donation of $100,000 toward response efforts to battle the devastating wildfires in western North Carolina and South Carolina.

Modernization of the U.S. power grid will not only require replacement of old components with new ones, it will also need to account for larger amounts of renewable energy and distributed generation. This movement is causing utilities to consider microgrids as a part of the solution.

Arrow Electronics recently donated 50 refurbished tablet computers to the children of the Tuleeni Orphanage in Tanzania, Africa. The tablet donation is an extension of the global technology company’s ongoing support of the remote orphanage.

My family raised my little brother and me in Fort Valley, a small town in Peach County, Georgia. When I was 18, I moved to Baton Rouge to attend Southern University on a track scholarship. I majored in business and joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. where we did volunteer work on campus and across the city. Registration for new and returning colleges and universities is now open for the 2017 RecycleMania, the premier collegiate recycling competition. The 2017 RecycleMania competition, managed by national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful, will kick off on Feb. 5 and run for eight weeks in conjunction with the final weeks of the collegiate basketball season and tournament games.
