Members of Keep America Beautiful’s headquarters’ staff joined volunteers from Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) and the National Park Service to beautify the north end of Ellis Island in New York Harbor.

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced the distribution of 21 grants totaling $120,000 from The UPS Foundation for the 2017 Keep America Beautiful/UPS Community Tree and Recovery Tree Planting Grants program. The grant recipients’ projects will result in more than 1,200 trees being planted in support of locally-relevant initiatives.

The Points of Light Civic Accelerator announced today that it will invest $50,000 each in SpringFour (Chicago) and The Virtual Scholarship Center (Atlanta) – one for-profit and one nonprofit startup. Andrea Rizzo's dream was to become a dance therapist and work with kids with special needs and cancer. On May 19, 2002, she was on her way home from a dance performance and was killed by a drunk driver. Her mother Susan Rizzo was devastated but credits a group of compassionate friends and colleagues for helping her through it. “One of Andrea’s colleagues approached me and said let’s start a foundation in Andrea’s name. She wanted to be a dance therapist, somehow maybe we can provide dance therapy to children,” said Susan.

Microsoft is investing more than $25 million over three years in Markle and the expansion of its successful Skillful initiative, first across Colorado and then to other states.
