In communities across the U.S., one in eight Americans, or nearly 40 million people, struggle with hunger, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. To raise awareness and combat the issue, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Feeding America® and member food banks are kicking off their sixth annual nationwide “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” (FHSC) campaign, which will run from April 22 to May 20.

At Domtar, we’re a proud part of the communities where we operate. We not only produce pulp, paper and personal care products in our facilities, but we also support vocational education, environmental sustainability and civic and recreational programs that enhance daily lives for our neighbors. Often, a pulp and paper mill was central to the development of these communities, and decades, or even a century later, that same mill remains one of the area’s largest employers. All of this is true of our Kingsport Mill, located in Kingsport, Tennessee.

When the Zero Landfill Initiative came to the Denali Park area, it was the young people who had spread the word. They formed ZLAP, the Zero Landfill Ambassador Program. This small group of teens, who attend Tri-Valley School, are now being honored for their past three years of dedication to this program.

In a combined effort to advance its employees’ health and well-being and support the American Lung Association (ALA), AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company raised nearly $20,000 for ALA through its involvement with the 2019 Fight For Air Climb in Los Angeles on April 6 – bringing the company’s collective fundraising total over the past four years to more than $70,000 for ALA.

Not only did Sproutel take home the top award in the Robotics and Hardware category at the 22nd annual SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards Presented by KPMG, but the company—along with their co-creators—also took home the people’s choice award for the My Special Aflac Duck, a “comforting companion” for children with cancer. “I’m so very proud of our team for both awards, and they represent very different achievements,” said Aaron Horowitz, co-founder and CEO.

Subaru of America, Inc. today announced it will be hosting a pet adoption event during the 2019 New York International Auto Show in partnership with the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), based in New York City. The ASPCA is the longest-standing animal welfare organization in North America and serves as the nation’s leading voice for animals in crisis. Taking place at the Subaru exhibit on Level One inside the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, this first-of-its-kind event is aimed at finding homes for pets in the greater New York City area.

Fifteen hundred Shred Day Houston guests donated 4,881 pounds of food and $18,656 in monetary donations, including a $7,500 contribution from Comerica Bank, to the Houston Food Bank, which helped provide an event record 60,036 meals for those in need.
