Roughly 12 billion metric tons of plastic waste will be in landfills by 2050, according to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Landfill waste is linked to the release of methane and other potent greenhouse gas emissions, pollution of groundwater, contamination of waterways and negative effects on local wildlife.

It’s a little-known fact that more than 75 percent of forestland in the southeastern region of the United States is owned by private woodland owners. Most people assume that this swath of the Appalachian Mountains is either federally held or the property of corporations in the business of making and selling wood-fiber based products such as writing paper, diapers, and paper towels.

Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, a member of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Trees program, is partnering with MetLife Foundation to plant trees to beautify two large areas anchoring the front of the Florida State Fairgrounds ExpoHall (4800 US 301), which welcomes 1.2 million visitors to Tampa annually.

The planting will take place on October 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The community event is made possible with the support of MetLife Foundation and is part of NeighborWoods Month, a national celebration of communities and trees.

Trees Charlotte, a member of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Alliance for Community Trees program, is partnering with NASCAR Green to plant 66 trees at the CharMeck Police Memorial Garden in the Nevin Community Park (6000 Statesville Road). The planting will take place on October 6, 2017 from 9:00–11:30 a.m. The community event is made possible with the support of NASCAR Green and is part of NeighborWoods Month, a national celebration of communities and trees.

The Arbor Day Foundation announced today an expanded professional partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts in conjunction with the Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program. Now in its tenth year, Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program boasts 344 campus participants receiving recognition for their commitment to tree care and management and a cumulative investment of $48.5 million nationwide to ensure healthy canopies on their campuses nation-wide.

Opening the IUCN/ICRAF event ‘Integrated approaches for multifunctional landscapes: connecting LDN, biodiversity and climate change’ at the recent UNCCD summit, Ms Barbut laid out in stark terms the challenge of meeting the world’s growing demand for food.

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD), selected Tetra Tech to design the Ground Water Reliability Improvement Project (GRIP). Tetra Tech used multiple technologies to treat secondary effluent to a near distilled water quality and re-inject into the groundwater basin.
