Employee Resource Group

Computerworld has ranked VMware among the Best Places to Work in IT 2019. VMware came in at number 12 out of the 49 large organizations (5,000+ U.S. employees) to make the list, which recognizes excellence in career developments, benefits, retention, training and diversity.

The month of June is LGBTQ Pride Month in the United States. Each year, Pride events are held nationwide in cities large and small, and for some people, it is the only occasion where they can be out and proud in their community. Pride festivals and parades are a celebration of the progress the LGBTQ community has made, but also a time to recognize the distance we still have to go to achieve full equality. This June, we’re excited to feature a guest post from Human Rights Campaign’s Liz Cooper.

When a colleague told Keith Gifford about Duke Energy’s employee resource group for LGBTQ individuals and straight allies, Gifford didn’t hesitate to join. For him, being an ally comes from a personal place.

The best part of the corporate social engagement process is its people. Especially those who are our evangelist to share, describe and empower social impact and its key factors to demonstrate the ongoing commitment to social missions and local needs. An instrumental function in our people driven engagement is the Employee Resource Group. Employee resource groups (also known as ERGs, affinity groups, or business network groups) are a collective of employees who join together in their workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences.

In August 2018, we hosted a Diversity and Inclusion Summit with more than 200 guests from companies and organizations throughout Michigan. During the opening session, more than 15 Consumers Energy coworkers shared personal and not immediately visible details about themselves to demonstrate the value of including everyone using #IncludeMe.

The Ally Program at CBRE supports the LGBTQ community to enrich the lives of everyone, inside and outside of the workplace. In addition, The Ally Network group also provides an open-minded support system for conducting business while addressing the personal requirements of our LGBT community.

Higher rates of workplace diversity can help companies evolve, innovate, problem-solve and be more efficient. It attracts the best talent, and helps define a company's reputation as a responsible company.
