Despite an increasingly accepted business case for gender equality, women’s talents and insights remain under-utilized in the energy sector, where only a quarter of the workforce is female. What is behind this lack of representation and how can women’s participation, visibility, and leadership in the sector be enhanced?

Digital literacy is key to future job growth and opportunity across the Asia-Pacific region. BNY Mellon supports a range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs to prepare disadvantaged individuals in this diverse region for the modern workforce. From India’s emerging economy to the developed economies of Hong Kong and Japan, BNY Mellon tailors programs to help people gain vital technology skills.

At the 3rd annual Women Transforming Technology (WT2) Conference in Palo Alto, with the theme “Inclusion in Action,” VMware (NYSE:VMW) announced it is collaborating with Stanford University to create the VMware Women’s Leadership Innovation Lab, in the pursuit of dramatically improving female representation in leadership positions.

Tetra Tech’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program aims to help students at all levels—from kindergarten to graduate school—develop an interest in these four technical fields. Tetra Tech employees around the world complete classroom visits, conduct science activities, provide mentorships, and participate in a multitude of programs, including activities that focus on water, science careers, and motivating girls and young women to pursue STEM careers.

GenYES trains students in grades 4 to 12 to provide technology support in their classrooms, helping to move their schools into the 21st century while gaining exposure to IT and STEM careers. Support from the Cisco Foundation enabled GenYES to expand to 30 schools in Yuma, Arizona, which received more than 1500 hours of tech support from students and saved $75K in IT service expenses.

Paro, the young daydreamer at the center of a new short film by the same name, can’t help but see stories all around her. She’s constantly writing and drawing — during class and under the covers in bed at night. Her creative passion draws her attention away from schoolwork, leading to a confrontation with her parents and her teacher, who confiscates Paro’s beloved journal.

From an early age, Houda Najjari has been passionate about education. She saw a real need based on the poor quality of public education that her daughter and other children in her area were receiving. She decided to launch the "Center of Excellence" in order to provide additional support to these children and raise their achievement levels.

Around the world, hundreds of millions of people lack access to quality learning opportunities, including 264 million children living in communities where basic educational resources are unavailable. To address this inequity, HP is working with other companies, nonprofit organizations, and governments to create technology solutions that can connect individuals to educational opportunities wherever they live.

In April 2013, Khouloud Jarraya and her father founded the family business SOTUFER, a company based in Kairouan, Tunisia, that produces a wide range of steel pieces for construction.
