In my more than two decades at Koch Industries, I have witnessed—and been part of—remarkable transformations inside the company and the business areas in which we operate. Working at Koch is probably unlike working for most other companies. Spend a few hours at one of our manufacturing facilities or offices across the country, and you might notice the difference, too. It was a privilege to share a slice of that at The Atlantic’s recent Power of Purpose Summit in New York. MilliporeSigma, which manufactures chemicals and other lab supplies, lets customers return plastic foam coolers and chemical containers. MilliporeSigma has also worked to repurpose the more difficult-to-recycle plastic products used in science. At FESPA this week in Germany, HP touted its new lineup of large-format printers, marking the company’s first foray into the fast-growing $3.6 billion textile market for printing everything from festive event banners and team jerseys to chic, one-of-a-kind wallpaper and throw pillows.

Sustainable and socially responsible investing now represents $1 in every $4 under professional management. As this type of investing becomes increasingly mainstream, companies around the world are scrambling to make environmental, social and governance (ESG) data available to investors so they can be included in ESG-focused portfolios. Intel, in particular, started engaging with investors around ESG issues nearly 20 years ago. Through so-called “outreach roadshows,” company representatives met with investment firms to share Intel’s ESG metrics and gather feedback about the data points of greatest interest to investors.

Bloomberg LP is expanding its parental leave policy from 18 weeks of fully-paid leave to 26 weeks effective immediately, founder Michael R. Bloomberg announced to employees today. The policy is gender neutral and establishes a new global minimum standard for primary caregivers.

Whirlpool Corporation has been named one of the Top 100 Best Corporate Citizens in 2019 by Corporate Responsibility Magazine (CR Magazine). The publication’s list honors the top 100 U.S. public companies in the Russell 1000 Index for outstanding environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency and performance.

A growing number of firms are recognizing this opportunity: DXC Technology, SAP, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft and EY all have initiatives to employ people on the autism spectrum. But more companies need to follow suit, said Bruyère, a leading expert in the field of employment disparities for people with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum.
