Scotiabank Furthers Commitment to Human Rights as It Becomes the First Canadian Bank to Adopt the UN Global LGBTI Standards for Business, as Well as Signing onto the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles

Scotiabank announced its signing of both the UN LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex) Standards for Business Conduct and the UN Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), further demonstrating the Bank’s continued commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and the alignment to the Bank’s Sustainable Business strategy, launched in its 2018 Sustainable Business report. The signing of these two UN initiatives provides Scotiabank the opportunity to showcase the great work already underway in Diversity and Inclusion.

Building A More Inclusive Michigan Workforce

Nike, Bridgestone and a Dozen Others Join Businesses Pushing Back on Controversial Tennessee Bills

Locally, the Nashville LGBT Chamber distributed its own letter that was signed by seven of its major corporate members, including Bridgestone Americas Inc., Dell Technologies, Salesforce.com Inc. and Postmates. AllianceBernstein, Curb Records and Warner Music Group also signed on to the chamber's letter, after previously speaking out individually on the bills. Joe Woolley, the chamber's CEO, said in an email that 20 small businesses have also endorsed the letter.

The Launch of Employee Resource Groups Brings an Inclusive Spirit to Viacom

Last month, 300 Viacom employees gathered on the outdoor pavilion of their Buenos Aires office, clad in sunglasses to temper the summer sunshine. A mix of long-time Viacom employees and those that joined the company via its 2016 acquisition of broadcaster Telefe, they browsed informational stations about Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) devoted to the interests of women, parents, the LGBTQ community, and aspiring next-generation professionals.

Over the past five years, our journey towards a more diverse and inclusive workplace has evolved from a targeted focus on women to an intersectional program for all employees. While we continue to learn and iterate to provide the best environment for our employees to thrive, we are steadfast in our belief in the power of human difference. In order to harness that power, Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) continues to be a critical business priority. We’ve taken an agile approach. We continue to innovate, testing research against practical application, and evolve our programs, tools and policies to drive change both in our organization and across the broader technology industry.
