Entergy Louisiana officially cut the ribbon on its new Sterlington Solar Facility in Ouachita Parish. This milestone marks the dawn of a cleaner, more sustainable era in a place deeply rooted in Entergy’s history.
The year I turned 26, scientists measured atmospheric concentrations of Carbon at 400 ppm for the first time in recorded history. According to former NASA scientist James Hansen, “If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted…CO2 will need to be reduced [to] at most 350 ppm.” So the story translates: the arctic is melting. Seas are rising. Disease. Drought. Wildfires. Resource Wars. All while our human family is projected to expand to 9 billion over the next couple of decades.

For the second consecutive year, volunteers from CITGO Petroleum Corporation, Houston Audubon Society and the Galveston community converged on the Smith Oaks Sanctuary in High Island to plant trees and remove invasive vegetation. The Houston Audubon Society-owned sanctuary, which protects 177 acres of field, woods, wetlands and ponds, is still recovering from damage inflicted over years of hurricane seasons and needs help in order to protect the many species of migratory birds who call it home.
UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced it has expanded its agreement with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (NASDAQ: CLNE) to use up to 500,000 gallon equivalents of renewable liquefied natural gas (RLNG) annually in Texas. UPS stations in Houston and Mesquite will dispense the RLNG to a fleet of about 140 UPS tractors. The deal builds on UPS’s current agreement with Clean Energy Fuels whereby UPS is using approximately 1.5 million gallon equivalents of renewable compressed natural gas (RCNG) annually in California where UPS operates nearly 400 CNG vehicles.
