Although he’s only in kindergarten, Glen already knows that he wants to be a garbage man when he grows up. Republic Services in Albany, Oregon helped Glen look the part for his recent Career Day event at school. A Republic employee took the time to sew the company logo onto the smallest vest we could find, and Glenn added to the look with his own gloves and work boots. The look on his face made everyone’s day and now all are eager to receive his employment application in about 12 years! Republic is proud that our drivers serve as such meaningful role models in the community.
The Williams County Landfill, operated by Republic Services, hosted a tour this fall for the St. Patrick’s Catholic School First Lego League of Bryan, Ohio. The First Lego League is an international program created to introduce children to science and technology. This year’s FLL challenge is the Trash Trek Challenge. The children are challenged to explore one piece of trash from start to finish. They are then asked to identify a problem in the way the trash is handled, and then come up with a solution.
Our business is about empowering the people we serve by putting health insights into their hands, so it makes sense to start with ourselves. We want to help each employee and dependent know their health, improve their health, prevent illness and injury, access care appropriately and manage their health conditions. These are the five core areas of our award-winning HealthyQuest program, which, for the past decade, has been raising our collective health literacy and inspiring our colleagues and their families to make appropriate, healthy and lasting lifestyle choices and changes.
Today’s students trust their peers. So we partnered with the Philadelphia area’s Healthy NewsWorks, an organization founded more than a decade ago by a second grade teacher and former Philadelphia Inquirer health reporter Marian Uhlman. Healthy NewsWorks partners with elementary and middle schools to teach children health literacy while also developing their leadership, critical thinking and communications skills through journalism.
