Sands Cares Honored with Governor’s Award in Nevada

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas was recognized for their community service through Sands Cares, the company’s corporate giving and Team Member engagement program, at the 2018 Governor’s Points of Light Awards in October. Sands Cares integrates the company’s philanthropic work worldwide including financial giving, Team Member volunteerism, and in-kind support while making an impact in the areas we care about most: our people, planet, and communities. Seven awards were given out by Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison at the annual awards ceremony including Sands Cares in Las Vegas for the Corporate and Business Volunteer Program.

Las Vegas Second Grader Recruits Help From the Venetian and the Palazzo for His Mission to Save the Planet

Benji Bach, a seven-year-old second grader at American Heritage Academy in Las Vegas, has been on a quest to save the environment by reducing the use of plastic shopping bags after reading about plastic bags floating in the ocean and how they can harm sea life. Benji decided to take action and sent a letter to The Venetian Resort asking for assistance with his efforts to seek help from his classmates to eliminate their use of plastic bags.

We are thrilled to welcome Robert Lee, Co-Founder and CEO of Rescuing Leftover Cuisine for a special Thanksgiving week episode. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a national nonprofit that targets both the prevention of quality food waste and putting an end to hunger. In the United States alone, 40 percent of food gets tossed every year and on average, 1,160 pounds of food are lost to the garbage pail each year by an American family of four. This amounts to $162 billion in waste annually, which could serve over $58 billion in meals using the national average spent on meals of $2.79.

Did you know a poorly maintained yard causes moisture and pest problems? Both of which can be detrimental to the health of the home and those inside. Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide help neighbors in need, like Cheryl, protect their homes from these dangers by removing debris, pruning overgrown bushes and trees and installing drain pipes that carry water away from the home’s foundation.

Turkey Dinners Delivered to Customers by Consumers Energy Employees

Consumers Energy employees understand that utility work can be a pain for customers. Torn up lawns and landscaping. Trucks blocking driveways and roads. Holes in the road and yards. So, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, employees gave back to their customers affected by this work. About 600 turkey dinners were assembled and delivered in Jackson, Saginaw and Warren.

Duke Energy Teams up With DonorsChoose.Org to Help Teachers and Students Recover From Hurricane Florence

The Duke Energy Foundation announced it is providing a $160,000 grant to DonorsChoose.org to fund relief projects by public school teachers in 16 counties across North Carolina and South Carolina.
