For the third year in a row, the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI) has recognized Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] as best-in-class in the area of corporate sustainability. This distinction is only given to the top 10 percent of the largest 2,500 companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index based on long-term environmental, social and economic benchmarks. Lockheed Martin is the only North American prime defense contractor included on the World Index.
For the second year in a row, Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) was ranked by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) as the mining industry’s overall leader in sustainability. Newmont’s inclusion on the index also marked the 10th consecutive year the company has been selected for the DJSI World. This year, the DJSI World – one of the most highly regarded sustainability indices – included 316 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainable economic, environmental and social performance. Newmont was the first gold company named to the index in 2007, and has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.
