The Reclamation and Biodiversity Research Center at PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) was established in 1995 as a way to restore the ecological function of the area near the operations known as the tailings deposition area. Tailings are the finely ground mineral rock that remain from the mining process after the economically valuable minerals have been removed from the ore.

AFTA has recently published its latest public opinion survey on the arts entitled Americans Speak Out about the Arts. The report is based on a nationally representative sample of over 3,000 adults, and it updates a similar study that was conducted two years ago.
Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Plants Trees for Afforestation Project
Minera Sociedad Cerro Verde distributed 3,000 trees in the Uchumayo District of Peru between 2017 and 2018 as part of its afforestation project.

Trees are important, as they absorb carbon dioxide, generate oxygen, and improve the quality of the air along with preventing erosion and degradation of the soil. Trees reduce noise pollution by absorbing the sounds of traffic, sirens and construction – their foliage acts as acoustic insulators.
Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Supports Local Agricultural Businesses
Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde has an Agricultural Development Program for farmers in the Yarabamba and Uchumayo Districts of Peru that provides services to business owners including education and information on warehouses and greenhouses.

Cerro Verde has model farms and demonstration plots for education. Farmers raise laying hens, ducks, and guinea pigs. Many local farmers also grow culinary herbs and succulents, as well as fruits, potatoes and quinoa.
Smithfield Foods Marks Significant Step Toward Zero-Waste-to-Landfill in North Carolina
Smithfield Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce a key step toward achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status across its North Carolina processing facilities. Smithfield will achieve this goal with support from its newest partner, Waste Connections, in a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a food company and waste services provider. The project will create a recycling facility that processes materials specifically from food production facilities. This project is part of Smithfield’s companywide sustainability initiative to reduce solid waste to landfills 10 percent by 2020 across all locations and its goal to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 25 percent by 2025 throughout its supply chain.

Scholarship America, Wells Fargo Invite Students to Apply for Disability Scholarships
In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) and Scholarship America announce the People with Disabilities Scholarship Program call for applications. In 2016, Wells Fargo committed $1 million over four years to Scholarship America to develop and implement the program. 2018 marks the third year of the program.
