Novartis ranked second in the 2018 Access to Medicine Index (ATMi), up from 3rd place in 2016, in recognition of its long-standing efforts to improve worldwide access to healthcare. Novartis remained the industry leader in access-to-medicine management, and its newly launched Access Principles – which aim to systematically integrate access strategies in how the company researches, develops and delivers medicines globally – have been highlighted as an innovative practice. The Novartis CEO and members of the Executive Committee now also have access objectives as part of their individual objectives.

In the media storm surrounding the midterm elections, you might have missed an important act of sustainability leadership. Five of the world’s leading brands filed public comments opposing the Administration’s Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule. The ACE rule would replace the Clean Power Plan, which all five companies have previously supported, and place no quantitative limits on climate pollution from power plants.
The CLP Group’s stakeholder engagement mechanisms and reporting approach have been recognised in the new edition of Reporting matters, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) annual review of member companies’ sustainability and integrated reports. In the recent WBCSD Leadership Program, CLP and other participants also contributed to a range of sustainability research: getting chief financial officers on board with sustainability; integrated reporting; digital reporting; assurance of environmental, social and governance data; impact assessments; safe sanitation; and communicating the use of low-carbon fuels.
The Venetian Resort Las Vegas was recognized for their community service through Sands Cares, the company’s corporate giving and Team Member engagement program, at the 2018 Governor’s Points of Light Awards in October. Sands Cares integrates the company’s philanthropic work worldwide including financial giving, Team Member volunteerism, and in-kind support while making an impact in the areas we care about most: our people, planet, and communities. Seven awards were given out by Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison at the annual awards ceremony including Sands Cares in Las Vegas for the Corporate and Business Volunteer Program.
