DETROIT, June 18, 2014 /3BL Media/– Local CITGO Marketers in Michigan, Miss America representatives and the CITGO Fueling Good Road Trip Ambassadors Adam and Diego were fueling good across Michigan with special events throughout May. The CITGO Fueling Good Road Trip traveled across the state for customer appreciation events and visits to local non-profit organizations, hospitals and schools to honor local heroes and reward loyal customers.

“The Fueling Good events allow us to engage the community while showing our customers just how grateful we are for their business,” said Waleid Elhady, sales and marketing executive at Michigan-based Bazco Oil. “We were excited to welcome Adam and Diego for one of our grand opening events, which also served as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to benefit breast cancer awareness and research. The visit allowed us to shine a spotlight on the great organizations and community members in the areas where we own and operate our stores, and where we also live.”

On May 4, Adam and Diego visited the CITGO-sponsored “preventable injuries” wing of the Motts Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. The pair, joined by Miss America representatives, delivered safety gear and bike helmets to the children in the hospital. The day’s events continued with a stop at a local CITGO station where Adam and Diego demonstrated the proper way to install a car seat.

The duo continued their trip with a visit to Mumford High School as part of the Relentless Tour Ianni Project, a grassroots initiative to eradicate bullying across Michigan. Anthony Ianni, a former Michigan State basketball player and anti-bullying advocate, spoke to more than 250 high school students to raise anti-bullying awareness. CITGO representatives concluded the event by treating students to a Fueling Good t-shirt giveaway.

Adam and Diego made their final stop at the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, a former Fueling Good project winner for their work providing food, advocacy and education on hunger issues. They toured the facility for a first-hand look at how the center has benefitted from its Fueling Good prize. Local CITGO Marketer Folk Oil Company, in partnership with PS Food Mart Charities, presented the food bank with a check for more than $24,000 to benefit local food pantries.

“It’s inspiring to give back and improve the lives of the people in the communities we serve,” said Jim Linton, vice president at Folk Oil Company. “A little help really does go a long way. We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with CITGO in enabling us to support the efforts of the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.”
