Chevrolet Brings All-Electric Vehicle Technology from the Moon to Earth
DETROIT — In July 1971, Apollo 15 astronauts explored the moon in the first electric-powered Lunar Rover, thanks to help from General Motors engineers. Fast-forward to the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, and it’s clear once again that GM remains at the forefront of EV engineering. With an EPA-estimated range of 238 miles on a single charge and costing a fraction of the Lunar Rover’s $38 million price tag, the Bolt EV has made driving electric attainable for the Earth-bound.

GM Scales Autonomous Vehicle Fleet to 180 Electric Cars
GM is using mass-production methods to manufacture 130 fully electric Chevrolet Bolt EV test vehicles equipped with self-driving technology at an assembly plant in Michigan. These vehicles will join the 50 already deployed in San Francisco, Scottsdale and metro Detroit. GM is testing these self-driving cars and collecting real-world data, ensuring they meet the company’s strict safety and quality standards.

GM Produces First Round of Self-Driving Chevrolet Bolt EV Test Vehicles
General Motors today announced that it completed production of 130 Chevrolet Bolt EV test vehicles equipped with its next generation of self-driving technology at its Orion Assembly Plant located in Orion Township, Michigan. The vehicles will join the more than 50 current-generation self-driving Bolt EVs already deployed in testing fleets in San Francisco; Scottsdale, Arizona; and metro Detroit.

Maven Gig Delivers the Shared Economy in an EV
GM’s car-sharing brand Maven recently expanded to include Maven Gig, an enabler for the sharing economy. This new platform provides the Chevrolet Bolt EV to freelance gig drivers who do not have access to a vehicle. The service supports people maximizing their earning potential, while helping add more electric vehicles to the streets.

Maven Gig Accelerates the Freelance Mobility Economy
Maven is expanding its flexible mobility platform to accelerate the gig economy. Maven Gig drivers are provided access to vehicles they can use for independent gigs that they choose, such as package delivery, food or grocery delivery, and ridesharing. The program is live in San Diego and will launch in San Francisco and Los Angeles later this year. Initial partners include GrubHub, Instacart, Roadie and ridesharing services.

GM Announces More Than 1,100 Jobs to Expand Cruise Automation Self-Driving Operations in California
General Motors today announced that it will add more than 1,100 new jobs and invest $14 million in a new research and development facility for Cruise Automation in San Francisco. These investments will allow Cruise Automation to expand development of self-driving technologies that will transform personal mobility.

GM Watching Policies that Pave the Way for Safe Self-Driving Vehicle Testing
Motor vehicle fatalities increased about 8 percent during the first nine months of 2016 compared to fatalities during that time in 2015, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This marks the eighth consecutive quarter in which fatalities have increased. Previous data has shown that more than 90 percent of highway fatalities are the result of human error. Self-driving technology is more than just a business priority for General Motors; it is an opportunity to save thousands of lives.
