Drive Engagement - Taproot's Leadership Initiative

For over 15 years, Taproot Foundation has helped to define, build, and advance the field of pro bono service around the globe. We've witnessed the transformative effect that pro bono service has on nonprofit organizations. And we know that human capital and professional expertise is an invaluable resource in addressing our society's most pressing challenges. In 2017, we are piloting Taproot Campaigns. A Campaign is a statement of our commitment to deepening the impact of pro bono service. Taproot's DRIVE ENGAGEMENT initiative is empowering nonprofit and corporate leaders to practice the essential leadership skills needed in our future workplaces and world through pro bono service. Developing a Diverse Pipeline of Nonprofit Leaders With Pro Bono
Bridgespan has estimated that by 2023 nonprofit leadership will have turned over 100%. The turnover is not due to a mass retirement of Baby Boomers as initially projected. Instead, it is driven by a combination of factors including staff movement to another nonprofit, termination, and a decision to switch sectors.

At Taproot Foundation’s leadership convening Leading the Way, participants across the corporate, philanthropic, and social sector dug into how to use pro bono as a leadership development strategy. Whether it’s practicing intelligent risk-taking, increasing effective communication, or deepening an organization’s inclusivity, pro bono strengthens leaders and their organizations.

The Taproot Foundation is gathering leaders from across sectors for the first-of-its-kind leadership convening—Leading the Way—on Tuesday, October 24, at the Google Community Space in San Francisco.

Taproot’s invitation-only convening will focus on pro bono as a unique tool for personal and professional development through experiential learning, both for the volunteer and the nonprofit professional who benefits from pro bono.
