Comcast NBCUniversal Earns No. 7 Spot on DiversityInc’s Top 50 List
We are pleased to announce that Comcast NBCUniversal was ranked No. 7 on DiversityInc’s 2018 Top 50 Companies for Diversity List, up 12 spots from 2017.

Thanks to our senior leadership commitment, strong recruitment efforts, and supplier diversity initiatives, this is the fifth consecutive year that our ranking has improved. In particular, DiversityInc attributes Comcast NBCUniversal’s position in the top ten to our significant growth in the number of diverse leaders at every level, as well as our best-in-class commitment to Supplier Diversity.

Why We Cannot Innovate Without Inclusion
Recently about 50 social impact executives came to Philadelphia for a two-day Learning Journey to explore the state of technology and inclusive innovation. Hosted by Comcast NBCUniversal and the Social Innovation Summit, the exploration featured intimate discussions with city leaders like Mayor Jim Kenney, University of Pennsylvania President Dr. Amy Gutmann, Superintendent Dr. William Hite, Saxbys Founder and CEO Nick Bayer, local startup founders and other community leaders. Dalila Wilson-Scott, senior vice president of Community Impact at Comcast NBCUniversal, discusses why technology and inclusive innovation is critical.

Comcast NBCUniversal Q&A: A Seat at the Billion Dollar Roundtable
The Billion Dollar Roundtable (BDR) is a corporate advocacy organization created in 2001 to recognize and celebrate companies that achieved spending of at least $1 billion with diverse-owned suppliers. Since Comcast NBCUniversal became the first media and technology company inducted into the BDR in 2015, our commitment to diverse suppliers has only strengthened, and our company has seen tremendous benefits as a result.

In this quarter’s Q&A, Comcast NBCUniversal’s Peter Kiriacoulacos, who was named 2017 Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) of the Year by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), joins Rick Hughes, BDR Chairman and former CPO of Procter & Gamble (P&G), to discuss why Supplier Diversity Programs are critical to the success of our businesses, and our economy.

From the NBC Writers’ Room: How Authenticity & Diversity Built 'This Is Us'
The vision for “This Is Us” started with our show’s creator, Dan Fogelman. He wanted to see a version of America that he felt was missing from mainstream media – one that he understood and related to through his own experiences growing up in suburban New Jersey. He saw an opportunity to bring a new structure to primetime TV, by building a cast of authentic, multi-dimensional characters who act, talk, and look like real people.

Dan was very intentional about creating something different, starting from the pilot episode. He knew that, if he wanted to create compelling storylines that connected with diverse audiences, he needed diverse voices at the table throughout the creative process. That’s where we came in.

Exploring Portland's Rich Native American & Indigenous History
November is National Native American Heritage Month, and here in Portland, Oregon, we are celebrating the artistic contributions from the American Indian and Indigenous community with this year’s Portland Film Festival (PDXFF). As the presenting sponsor, Comcast provides support for our festival to bring a wide array of diverse voices to audiences across the region. This year, we are screening over 152 films from around the world, 89 of which were directed by women – that’s nearly 60 percent of the films being screened – and, each day, a film will be shown that highlights current Indigenous voices.

Comcast NBCUniversal Screens DreamWorks Pictures' 'Thank You For Your Service' in Washington, DC and Philadelphia
Comcast NBCUniversal is grateful for those who serve our nation, and is proud of the thousands of members of the military community who call Comcast their home. The importance of supporting the military community is woven into the fiber of our company, starting with our company leadership. Comcast NBCUniversal leaders including founder Ralph Roberts, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran; Comcast’s Vice Chairman, Neil Smit, a former U.S. Navy SEAL; and NBCUniversal’s Vice Chairman, Ron Meyer, a Marine Corps veteran, exemplify our authentic commitment to our military community throughout the Comcast NBCUniversal family.

Diversity Drives Innovation
Despite being one of the most diverse cities in the country, Philadelphia’s entrepreneurial and executive community is not reciprocally represented by Black, Latinx, and other ethnic groups. While people of color constitute 55% of the population, a 2016 Census Bureau survey found that just 15% of Philadelphia businesses are operated by non-white owners.

Comcast NBCUniversal hopes to address these disparities across the city by supporting Black & Brown Founders and other organizations that promote diverse business investment and give more groups the support and resources they need to start their own companies.
