Area Emergency Responders Hone Their Skills on Norfolk Southern Safety Train

Norfolk Southern Corporation’s safety train rolled into Chattanooga, Tenn., this week, hosting 195 area emergency responders who received advanced training in safely handling potential rail incidents involving hazardous materials. “The safety train is a mobile technical training center – a vocational school – for the continuing education of first responders and representatives of government agencies who support Norfolk Southern’s commitment to incident-free handling of hazardous materials,” said David Schoendorfer, Norfolk Southern’s system manager hazardous materials. “It’s a whistle-stop train that helps keep our communities safe.”

Women Will Have to Wait Another 170 Years to Close Gender Gap

Women are going to get pay equality – they’ll just have to wait for another 170 years.

That’s according to an estimate by the World Economic Forum assessing gender gaps when it comes to economic opportunities, political empowerment, education and health between men and women.

Gildan Donates to Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Haiti

National Geographic Launches Earth Week on Sunday, Oct. 30, Airing Climate Change-Related Programming

National Geographic will kick off its first ever Earth Week on Sunday, October 30, launching six straight days of primetime programming focused on climate change. The broadcasting event, timed to lead up to the U.S. presidential election, will feature the global premieres of Before the Flood, Leonardo DiCaprio's documentary about climate change, and the second season of the Emmy-winning Years of Living Dangerously, in which Hollywood correspondents such as David Letterman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cecily Strong, and more travel around the world to witness its effects on communities and ecosystems. Earth Week begins at 7/6c on National Geographic on Oct. 30, and will continue nightly until Friday, Nov. 4.

It wasn’t that long ago that computers were work-place only appliances, but today we (and our families) walk around with immensely powerful computers in our pockets. Our smartphones are powered by millions of apps and connected to a modern and mobile internet that enables us to do about, well, anything! These devices make it possible for us to connect with friends around the world, stay informed with the news anywhere, make payments, control the lights and temperature in our homes and even hail cars (which will soon be driven by computers as well).
