In honor of the 2nd annual Sheldon G. and Dr. Miriam Adelson Citizenship Award, presented by Sands Cares, we are spotlighting our 12 Sands Cares Heroes, finalists for the Adelson Citizenship Award. The winner will be announced Wednesday, April 25.

In honor of Earth Day, Arrow Electronics’ Corporate Social Responsibility Team organized a volunteer event with Denver Parks and Recreation near the company’s global headquarter campus. Arrow employees mulched trees, removed debris, weeded and painted.

Later this week, tens of thousands of Comcast and NBCUniversal employees, and their friends and families, along with hundreds of nonprofit organizations, will join hands to drive positive change in the communities we serve during the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Over the past 18 years, Whirlpool has partnered with Habitat for Humanity, committing more than $101 million to programs in over 45 different countries. That includes projects conducted through Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland.

Teachers, parents and guardians from the Territories (Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon) are joining their counterparts in all provinces to talk about money and help young people get a head start in their financial education. They are participating in Talk With Our Kids About Money Day (TWOKAM Day). The educational program, created by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) and supported by Scotiabank, is celebrating its sixth anniversary.

On March 22, Sands Cares, the company’s global corporate giving program, partnered with the United Way of Southern Nevada to sponsor Nevada’s Big Give. Since 2011, thousands of Nevadans have participated in the 24-hour online crowdfunding event that was created to rally together community support for Nevada’s charitable causes. In total, $631,153 was raised by 4,360 individual donors that benefitted 235 nonprofits.

Sands Cares, the global corporate giving program of Las Vegas Sands Corp., The Venetian and The Palazzo, donated $50,000, $25,000 per year over the next two years, to help fund the operating costs of local philanthropic organization, Mondays Dark. Twice a month, Mondays Dark gathers stars from Hollywood and the Las Vegas Strip, musical acts, comedians, athletes, and the occasional celebrity chef, for 90 minutes of conversation and entertainment. Its mission is to raise $10,000 per performance for a rotating roster of Las Vegas charities.

April 15-21 is National Volunteer Week, a time to recommit ourselves to community service and celebrate the change-makers who positively impact the world around them through volunteerism. Here in our headquarters city of Charlotte, Duke Energy is celebrating the week by teaming up with Share Charlotte to support Do Good Week. Through Do Good Week, we hope to educate and engage our neighbors in the many ways we can do good through volunteerism.
