Little Ava Rain is celebrating her third birthday with a permanent, loving family and to see the look on all their faces, you’d never know that they all had their own set of challenges to get to this place.

Today is national best friend day and for children who grew up in the foster care system, friendship can be a tough thing to form. When you are always moving from house to house, it’s hard to create lasting friendships. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is committed to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care so that every child can have the family and friendships they deserve.

JetBlue, New York’s Hometown Airline®, has a long history of supporting those who serve their communities. Today public servants from New York and abroad joined forces for a good cause. JetBlue and the British Metropolitan Police Department partnered for their eighth annual plane pull at New York’s JFK Airport. “Bobbies” from London’s police department competed against teams including JetBlue crewmembers and members from local authorities including the NYPD and FDNY to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

Las Vegas Sands named Erik Weiner the winner of The Mr. Sheldon G. and Dr. Miriam Adelson Citizenship Award presented by Sands Cares. Weiner is a training coordinator at Sands Bethlehem in Pennsylvania.

Today, Walmart announced expansions to its military leave of absence policy, offering differential pay to all eligible military associates taking on assignments lasting more than three days and through the duration of leave – including basic training. Walmart has offered differential pay since 2008.

Today at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Jamie Dimon will highlight JPMorgan Chase’s $17 million, five-year commitment to Summer Youth Employment Programs (SYEP) in Boston as well as over a dozen U.S. cities. Jamie will participate in a small group discussion with Brigham and Women’s Hospital leadership, Lieutenant Governor Polito, and alumni of youth employment programs in Boston.

More than 100 Allstate agency owners from around the country sorted and stuffed 2,400 backpacks with books and loaded them onto Chicago Public Library trucks at Navy Pier on Wed., May 17. The backpacks, which included books tailored for preschool, elementary and middle school students, were delivered to all 80 Chicago Public Library branches and will be distributed to youth this summer.

For every 50 hours of volunteer time logged – whether through a JetBlue organized event or their own independent volunteer activity – JetBlue donates two round-trip travel certificates to that crewmember’s chosen charity.
