Points of Light, with support from KPMG Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service, will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15 by engaging more than 90,000 individuals in acts of service through 1,575 service projects and civic dialogue events in more than 50 communities in partnership with local Points of Light affiliates and nonprofits across the country. MLK Day marks the beginning of the service year as hundreds of thousands of individuals will honor the memory of Dr. King by contributing their time, talent and voice to improve their communities.

21st Century Fox has strengthened its partnership with the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) with the release of a free Battle of the Sexes curriculum guide for the classroom. Inspired by the true story of world tennis champion and WSF founder, Billie Jean King, the curriculum offers materials for teachers to guide their students through discussions on sexism, LGBT rights, inclusion, and the landmark Title IX legislation, as well as handouts and activities to supplement key themes. Along with the curriculum’s release, 21CF is also making DVD copies of Fox Searchlight’s Battle of the Sexes available free of charge to educators in high school and college classrooms across the United States.

Cause coins will be a powerful currency for nonprofits impacting social good and the importance of this impact to society. Within this new “cause currency” economy, nonprofits will thrive and be sustainable in a way that has never been achieved before.

Boeing [NYSE: BA] has awarded $10 million to the George W. Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative in support of veterans’ programs and services. The company’s donation is part of a $30 million, multi-year investment aimed at veterans' recovery and rehabilitation programs and military transition services. In 2018 alone, Boeing grant dollars will assist more than 100 veterans’ nonprofits, worldwide.

Tonya Dirkse was, in her own words, at her breaking point. Recently divorced with no job, she was having trouble making ends meet and was hesitant to ask for help. Then her sister mentioned that she might qualify for social services assistance, saying that it would be “a hand-up not a hand-out.”
