Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today issued the following statement which can be attributed to Helen Lowman, President and CEO:

Black & Veatch, a leading engineering and construction company with deep expertise in industrial water treatment, water reuse and water infrastructure, helped guide a Koch Industries subsidiary to an award-winning water treatment project at the Koch Fertilizer plant in Enid, Oklahoma.

Right-of-way farming joins a bevy of sustainable initiatives along the Ray C. Anderson Memorial Highway in Georgia.

Having a stretch of highway named in your honor is a big deal. But the Ray C. Anderson Foundation, the nonprofit family foundation dedicated to realizing the legacy of the late green business pioneer, has opted to take the highway memorization process one giant step further.

The Soil Health Partnership has built a network of 111 farmers across 12 states, from North Dakota to Maryland. These farmers have raised their hands to join in learning about how a little science and soil health can help improve cropping system resiliency, economic performance and environmental outcomes (water quality, air quality, and biodiversity).

The Vancouver Declaration is a public promise made by companies across the globe to work towards more sustainable sourcing of forest products. It also acts as an endorsement of FSC as our supplier of choice for certification of forest products. The Vancouver Declarations have also been signed by other sustainable companies, such as IKEA and H&M.

In this video, Vanessa Cavanagh, principal Aboriginal engagement consultant, discusses the results of the project and the importance of Aboriginal leadership in providing an example for and mentoring young, Aboriginal Australians. Vanessa is a First Nations Australian who has more than 15 years of experience in Aboriginal community engagement and both theoretical and practical experience in environmental and heritage conservation and research.

Our forests are a treasured legacy threatened by insects, disease, and devastating wildfires. But Foundation members, corporate sponsors, and partners continue to respond to the need for replanting.

Goal: Hilton Hotels sought to establish a corporate-wide recycling program to responsibly dispose of older hotel TVs, while upgrading to innovative new energy-efficient television sets to heighten the in-room guest experience and reduce energy costs.

Perhaps you’ve started shopping at your local farmers market weekly. Maybe you’ve replaced your incandescent lightbulbs with LEDs. You might have started paying a bit extra for the organic strawberries instead of the regular ones. How should you feel?

As I look back on this past year, I am struck by the energy and power generated by the concern for trees. Our members, corporate partners, and planting partners are joining together with the Arbor Day Foundation every day and making great positive changes through our stewardship programs. Our vision of being a worldwide leader in the recognition and use of trees as a solution to global issues is being realized through these united efforts.
