I didn’t know Bloomberg wrote about that.” I often hear this response when I tell people what I cover as a reporter on Bloomberg News’ diversity and management team. This beat looks at the intersection of race, class and gender in the workplace – one that has become increasingly relevant in our political and social climate.

At the recent TDn2K™ (Transforming Data into Knowledge) conference, the Wendy’s Company received a 2018 Global Best Practices Award for being an industry leader in hourly and management turnover, diversity, compensation and year over year results.

Back in August this year I attended the opening of our Innovation and Knowledge Center in Pune, India - an expansion of our facilities to celebrate our 20 year anniversary in the country. The role of anyone leading global diversity and inclusion (D&I) efforts and strategy is to impact culture change. My responsibility is to create a more inclusive culture at Sodexo and to position us as a good corporate citizen. As D&I change agents, we have to approach our work with a systems mindset, looking to address processes, policies and procedures, mindsets and behaviors, and, ultimately, the culture.

American Express today announced that it is one of over 100 companies from ten sectors to join the inaugural 2018 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). Launched today, the reference index measures gender equality across internal company statistics, employee policies, external community support and engagement, and gender-conscious product offerings.

The essays run the gamut in terms of length. Most arrive handwritten, the style of printing shedding light on the writers’ age group and on their innocence. The works haven’t been scrubbed for spelling and grammatical errors either. They are simple and genuine reflections by young school children from throughout the United States who, in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., each year voice their hopes and dreams to Hormel Foods.

The company’s African American Resource Group – known as HAARG – has sponsored and coordinated an annual essay contest for primary school children since 2011. It is designed to pay tribute to the fallen civil rights leader by asking children what he and his work mean to them. At the same time, it’s meant to show them they should believe change is possible.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) awarded Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, a perfect score of 100 percent in workplace equality on its 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This is the second consecutive year Ingersoll Rand has earned a perfect score on the index.
