In celebration of World Water Day on March 22 and Earth Day on April 22, Xylem will host the second annual Make Your Mark 30 Day Challenge, a month-long event that encourages employees to engage in efforts to solve global and local water and environmental issues. The 30 Day Challenge is a signature event of Xylem Watermark, the company’s corporate citizenship platform aimed at providing and protecting safe water resources in communities and educating people about water issues.

As part of the launch to this year’s Make Your Mark 30 Day Challenge on World Water Day, Xylem Watermark will sponsor employee-led events with global nonprofit partner EarthEcho International, kicking off the 17th edition of the organization’s EarthEcho Water Challenge.

Despite the substantial, positive contribution to growth and innovation made by women, disparities still exist in access to education and economic opportunities that limit women from achieving their full sociopolitical power.

In a typical day, I spend a lot of time in lab running experiments on the various mass spectrometers I utilize for my projects. When I am not in the lab, I am in the office analyzing data, working on manuscripts or planning my next experiment based on the current results I have. There are also weekly meetings that I attend and I help to organize monthly meetings for the post-doctoral fellows at Amgen.

The 21st-century economy, however, dominated by emerging technologies like electric vehicles, green energy sources and ever-more advanced mobile devices, is demanding creative approaches to efficiently delivering the raw materials that will fuel modern economies.

AIDA Cruises is continuing its ongoing commitment to social, cultural and charitable projects. On March 9, 2018, at the ITB in Berlin, Hansjörg Kunze, vice president for communication and sustainability, presented a check for 42,265 euros to the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP for the reconstruction of an elementary school in Dinagat in the Philippines. The donation is part of the money raised from a charity raffle that AIDA traditionally holds aboard the AIDA fleet on New Year’s Eve. Severe floods destroyed many schools in the region in December.

A little-known fact about the Canadian 25 cent coin, is that the animal on the “tails” side is in fact not a moose, but a caribou! Caribou (also known as reindeer), are an integral part of Canadian indigenous heritage, as well as northern ecosystems. These members of the deer family were once one of Canada’s most widespread wildlife species. Today their numbers have significantly diminished, some herds by more than 90%. Climate change, increased habitat development, and poor land use planning have contributed greatly to the caribou’s steady decline. Most Arctic caribou are migratory, which poses challenges for habitat conservation when coupled with mining exploration and development.
