The Future of Forests: Sustainable Forestry in the Decade of Action

Researchers agree the next decade is critical in the fight against climate change.  Meanwhile, the global community is challenged to accomplish the shared vision set forth in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which cover everything from poverty and healthcare to water and energy.

The future of forests and forestry is key to both of these visions. When managed properly, forests sequester carbon, preserve watersheds and reduce the severity of natural disasters. They also provide a livelihood for an estimated 1.6 billion people worldwide. So as we look toward the Decade of Action to deliver on the SDGs and global climate commitments, forests must play an integral role. In this series sponsored by Procter & Gamble, we’ll revisit what sustainable forestry is and explore what it means to take it to the next level.
