October 24, 2013 /3BL Media/ - THE OPPORTUNITY

CEB’s London office supported Enactus through several traditional volunteer channels before the opportunity to share one of CEB’s key training products was envisioned.

Enactus is committed to partnering with leaders from business and higher education to provide students with a platform to apply school learning to address real world business and economic issues. It is designed to serve as a natural extension of their academic activities. Corporations, like CEB, play an essential role in advancing work to improve lives, strengthen communities and develop socially responsible business leaders.

The CEB/Enactus partnership took a new turn when CEB hired a former Enactus student, Haley Capp, who knew what CEB assets the Enactus students would benefit from the most.  CEB investigated a custom curriculum for Enactus as a unique way to maximize the partnership.

CEB’s PRO BONO INVESTMENT

A key component of CEB’s talent management and measurement solutions are the leadership academies offered to up and coming corporate leaders.   Typical participants in this training are emerging leaders that have proven functional proficiency.  The sessions teach broader leadership, business, analytical, and communication skills required for effective strategic partnership.

In June 2013, two team members from CEB, adapted and facilitated a four-hour training course based on CEB’s module “Obtaining Stakeholder Commitment”.  The “CEB Enactus Student Leadership Academy” module is designed to help high performers tailor communications to appeal to different audiences and present powerful business cases that drive stakeholders to action.  CEB’s Betsy Summers and Hayley Capp, successfully taught the students how to uncover their personal communication styles and adapt to different audiences -- a vital skill students need to lead projects and produce the best possible deliverables.

THE IMPACT

CEB applied their staff time and company assets to provide valuable leadership skills to twenty Enactus students from twenty different UK Universities. The CEB Enactus Student Leadership Academy received an overall ‘excellent’ rating by participants with the most common feedback being: “I wish the session was longer so we could have learned more leadership skills such as effective coaching and presenting powerful business cases.” The Enactus UK program is enthusiastic about the potential of having CEB’s program become a key component of the annual Enactus training curriculum. Such an opportunity would allow CEB to continue making a difference and enhance the leadership skills of a new cohort of high caliber future leaders each year; an exciting proposition to further advance the CEB/Enactus partnership and complement CEB’s values and overall mission.

About Pro Bono Service

Pro bono--short for pro bono publico, "for the public good"—refers to professional services delivered without expectation of a fee to organizations serving the social good. It is both a form of support for community organizations as well as an increasingly core part of the ethic of business professionals from design to HR and technology, who believe that high-quality professional services are too important to only be available to those who can afford them.
