Green Mountain Energy Customers Avoid 9.9 Billion Pounds of Carbon Dioxide in 2018

In celebration of Earth Month, today Green Mountain Energy announced its customers prevented more than 9.9 billion pounds of carbon dioxide in 2018 by choosing cleaner electricity and carbon offset products – 1.3 billion more pounds than in 2017. For perspective, that’s like removing nearly one million cars from roadways or turning lights off in 10.5 million households for a year.

The late-20th Century “environmental movement” was a segue from the older 19th and early 20th Century “conservation movement” that was jump started by President Theodore Roosevelt (#26), who in his 8 years in the Oval Office preserved some 100,000 acres of American land every work day (this before the creation of the National Parks System a decade later).

In a combined effort to advance its employees’ health and well-being and support the American Lung Association (ALA), AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company raised nearly $20,000 for ALA through its involvement with the 2019 Fight For Air Climb in Los Angeles on April 6 – bringing the company’s collective fundraising total over the past four years to more than $70,000 for ALA.

Asian malaria experts surveyed in a new report are saying that new tools are needed as the disease is becoming resistant to existing prevention and therapy measures. They called for continued investment in R&D for new antimalarials and insecticides to achieve the World Health Organization’s 2030 elimination targets.

Survey Results: Global Institutional Investors With US$8.4 Trillion in AUM Confirm The Rising Value of Corporate ESG Principles

The FTI Consulting business advisory firm surveyed a set of 130 global institutional investors to gauge the depth and breadth of U.S. assets invested using ESG principles. This group of investors, contacted from May through July 2018, responded that their Assets Under Management totaling US$8.4 trillion was believed to have benefitted by the contribution of extra [corporate] value to a company with a high ESG rating.
