A Baker's Dozen: Duke Energy Economic Development Honored by Site Selection Magazine
For the 13th consecutive year, Duke Energy has been named to Site Selection magazine's annual list of "Top Utilities in Economic Development." In the magazine's September edition, it credits Duke Energy's economic development team and its successful collaboration with state and local partners for delivering more than $4 billion in capital investments and more than 14,000 new jobs in 2016. Duke Energy has been featured on the list every year since 2005.

FCA Foundation Announces Nearly $900,000 in Educational Grants Supporting Student Achievement

The FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of North American automaker FCA US LLC, today announced six grants, totaling nearly $900,000, to support academic and nonprofit organizations across the United States that help students – pre-K through post-secondary – build the skills and competencies that support student achievement. Many of these collaborations focus particularly on programs designed to expand science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills and opportunities among youth.

Curiosity Cube™ Visits State College

A retrofitted shipping container is a new approach in hands-on science classes for local students. The Curiosity Cube is making stops in several Centre County schools this week. Inside the cube three separate learning stations. One is dedicated to DNA, another the Brain Station and the third is a 3d printer.

Driving Food Waste Toward Zero
As a computer science student in Urbana, Illinois, Raj Karmani had almost no clue about running a restaurant or grocery store. He only knew that if leftover bagels at his neighborhood bakery were landing in the trash while people all over the city were going hungry, something didn’t add up.

In 2013 Raj aimed his technology skills at the problem by founding Zero Percent, a startup that uses a unique mobile software app and online platform to connect local businesses that have excess food with community service organizations seeking donations. So far, his company has redistributed more than 1.5 million meals from over 150 food operators to more than 120 nonprofits.
