VIDEO | Hackster.io Launches Project to Promote Gender Diversity in Hardware

Aug 14, 2017 1:05 PM ET

In a 2016 survey of people from 104 countries, Hackster.io discovered that fewer than six percent of hardware developers are women. In an effort to encourage more women of all ages to pursue careers in hardware, Adafruit and Hackster.io have collaborated to create the Women in Hardware (WiH): Interview Series.

Rather than focusing on the lack of diversity and difficult experiences that these women have faced, the video series is dedicated to calling attention to the amazing work being done today by some of the most inspiring and pioneering women in hardware who are inventing, innovating, and changing hardware for the better.

Hackster, an Avnet community, helps people everywhere learn how to design, create and program Internet-connected hardware. By bringing together our network of close to 200,000 engineers, makers and hackers, 90 technology partners, and 100 Hackster Live ambassadors, we hope to support the creation of technologies that impacts meaningful issues, such as a healthy environment, wildlife preservation and our own welfare.
