On Thanksgiving Day 2013, the Yum! China team showed their support for the next generation. Company leaders and Regional General Managers from Pizza Hut and KFC joined a delegation from the World Food Programme, the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, volunteers and members of the media on a trip to Duogo primary school, a World Hunger Relief (WHR) beneficiary in the mountain city of Kunming. The aim of the visit was to witness Yum!'s WHR funds in action and bring awareness to the urgent need for aid in remote places, where children too often go to school hungry.

The group had lunch with primary school students, visited children in their homes, and donated warm clothing and nutritious food items, such as edible oil and rice. They also visited a "Love Canteen," a food storage and preparation resource donated through the WHR, which includes a gas furnace, rice-steaming cart, sterilizer and freezer.

"It's difficult to appreciate the severity of poverty until you experience it firsthand," said Cindy Wei, with Yum! China's Public Relations Department.  "By the same token, it's also important to witness how efforts, such as World Hunger Relief, can alleviate suffering."
